When I was building my site, I was clear about one thing. My target audience would visit my site to find information, and they would like to find that stuff quickly and easily and move on with their lives. So my website had little need for any kind of razzle-dazzle. Think about what your target audience would be looking for and how you're going to make it easy for them to find what they are looking for. A professional SEO or good knowledge of implementing SEO techniques will help your website to rank better on SE and draw qualified visitors. Most websites fail to attract visitors because they either have too much information or too little. Websites that are overflowing with information make it impossible for visitors to find what they are looking for. These are the sites, even spiders have a hard time ranking. For the same reason - too much info and the missing consistency, continuity and focus. Too much varied content doesn't help. So the first thing is to clean up your menu. Focus on what is really important for your potential visitors & then create landing pages. Make navigation a pleasant experience for your visitors. Always remember that a crisp headline can hold your visitor’s attention much longer than a boring 450 words’ text. Second reason for websites to not show up is that webmasters try to rank for high volume, highly competitive keywords and phrases right away. Instead one should try to find keywords that will make your website stand out. It is about finding & narrowing the niche. Next reason is bad CMS. CMS is the heart of website pumping the blood. Most websites owners do not go beyond designing aspect. Ensure that CMS is in order, there are no frames. Also, if the technical aspect of CMS fails, your site will be paralyzed and will never rank irrespective of how much you spend - in time and money. Website owners are sometimes a stubborn lot. They forget that they may own the website but it belongs to the visitors. Don’t use keywords that won't work. Focus on what your visitor wants, not what you think looks best. Site owners think that they can handle every aspect of the website like technical, content, & search marketing by themselves. They should know that what qualified and experienced SEO or technician can do, a website owner with limited experience can’t. A website owner should try and give their potential visitors a taste of what they can expect. A website should be able to aspire visitors. Last but not the least, what you put into your website will come out of it. So aim for high standards and high quality. Give it all the attention it deserves.
